Kirstie and Phil's Love It Or List It viewers brand it a 'travesty' after a couple decided to get rid of the swimming pool in their living room - despite the owners comparing it to a '1980s porn set.' 

In last night's episode of the Channel 4 show, Tony Congdon and Christine Attwood explained how they bought their bungalow in Croydon 22 years ago. 

And it wasn't long before presenters Phil Spencer and Kirstie Allsopp revealed an unexpected feature - a colourful swimming pool sat in the heart of the living room in a bungalow in South London's Purley. 

However, while Phil described the property as being 'like Hugh Hefner's Surrey retreat,' those who tuned in were still disappointed when the swimming pool was filled in to create a lounge. 

'So this couple has a pool and bar in their lounge and wants to get RID of it? Madness!' wrote one, while a second agreed: 'I'm sorry, but I genuinely think it's a travesty to rip out the pool on that 60s bungalow. The problem with is that they just make every house a generic open plan living space with a generic social kitchen.'

A third added: 'I cannot believe they got rid of their pool,' while a fourth agreed: 'If Kirstie came round and filled in my swimming pool for a kitchen the size of a half a football pitch I would lose it.' 

Christine said: 'When we first walked into this house, it just offered something different and it was exciting.'

Kirstie went on to describe how the house from the outside looked like a 'normal' bungalow with a 'normal' looking lounge that had a curtain that…'opened onto an, er, swimming pool.'

'When we describe our house to people, we tell them that our lounge has a swimming pool in it,' explained Christine. 'But basically the lounge is a swimming pool. It does really look like a 1980s porn set.'

Tony added: 'And since you put that pampas grass outside, people have said it is a swingers' house.'

Phil responded: 'With the 1980s pool, I can see where the confusion might have arisen.'

But Christine explained why she wanted to move, saying that when they bought the property they wanted a 'party house' - but now they don't. 

Meanwhile, Tony told how he would like to stay at the property and loved the location.

But with the pool covering 710 square feet of living space, Phil and Kirstie decided to fill it, reclaiming the lounge.

'I bet that [pool] has seen plenty of action,' added Phil. 'It is like Hugh Hefner's Surrey retreat this is.'

The former jacuzzi area was transformed into a new entrance to the house (pictured, before the transformation)







Following the transformation (pictured), the house was given a whole new entrance and hallway through the middle, while a cloak room and toilet was added at the back 


And come the end of the episode, Kirstie explained: 'This may have been the greatest transformation we have ever had.'

But not everyone was convinced - with many who tuned in taking to social media to express their disappointment the pool had been filled to create a large living area. 

'Quite sad the pool went it looked like it's great for parties,' wrote one, while a second penned: 'I'd buy the house as it is with the swimming pool.' 

A third added: 'Actually like this house. Who wouldn't want a swimming pool leading off the kitchen area,' while a fourth commented: 'Don't know why these people got rid of their pool, porno izle I would love that!'  

The renovation cost £150,000 and despite being impressed with the work, the couple decided to move instead.
